Below are the very first configurations I’ve done on the Ubuntu 12.04.2 64 bit of my ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Install programs

1. via Web
   • Chrome
   • Dropbox
   • Sublime Text 2
2. via Ubuntu Software Center
   • Filezilla
   • System Load Indicator

Configure settings

1. Input devices
   • Remap CapsLock to Ctrl
   • Add Korean keyboard, configure iBus, and disable HUD’s use of alt key to use only for 한영전환
   • Enable natural scolling for trackpad
   • Enable palm detection: synclient PalmDetect=1
2. Power
   • System settings > Power > When the lid is closed > Do nothing (On battery power & When plugged in)
   • Enable hibernation (+ log in & out)
3. Github SSH key generation
4. Terminal
   • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
   • sudo apt-get install git vim tmux
     • Upgrade tmux to 1.8
     • Change default editor from nano to vim.basic
   • sudo apt-get install gnome-gmail (Gmail as default mail client)
   • Get my dotfiles (bash, vi, tmux, Git configurations)
5. Add static IP for wired connection
